Palo Santo is one of the most popular botanical remedies in South America, highly prized by shamans and used for spiritual cleansing and energy rituals. The calming, woody aroma brings energy of healing and purification, and a wide range of aromatic notes is unique and incomparable to other aromas. The smoke from the sacred tree is believed to clear negative energy and emotions, and to physically ground and stabilize.
Think of Palo Santo as aromatherapy; releasing a calming scent to the olfactory and limbic systems of the body and brain, in turn creating a feeling of relaxation and calm.
Instructions for use:
Palo Santo: Light the tip of the stick with a match or lighter and hold it at a 45-degree angle for about 30 seconds. Then blow out the flame, let it smolder and walk around the room with the incense stick. Relight after a while if necessary. Do not leave the burning stick unattended.
How to clean your living space, your property or yourself:
Light the end of the sage with a match or candle. If it ignites, blow it out quickly. The tips of the leaves should slowly smolder and give off thick smoke. Direct this smoke around your body or room with one hand while holding the bundle in the other.
Stay close to the areas of your body or objects around you that you want to focus on. Using a pen can also help to direct smoke, but it doesn't have to. The ritual can be applied to a new item such as jewelry, furniture, or clothing (e.g. second-hand) to protect or neutralize negative energy. Objects associated with negative experiences or memories can also be resented.
What to do after the ritual:
Attention! Do not leave burning sage unattended! Make sure that the burning end of the compound is completely extinguished. You can extinguish by tapping the burning end into a small non-flammable bowl (e.g. ceramic or sink) as well as on sand. After it is completely extinguished, the compound can be stored in a safe and dry place away from sunlight.
